Just read a piece of news! It is said that Jerry Yang (the chief of Yahoo!) has refused an attemp made by MS and Carl Icahn (one of the most important investors of Yahoo!) to buy Yahoo!'s search service. Several days ago, MS said that it would consider renegotiating with Yahoo! on condition that Yahoo! sets a new board. Now it seems that the possibility is too little. Meanwhile, Icahn has set up a new board list
and will bid at the annual meeting of Yahoo! to replace the present board led by Jerry Yang.

Yesterday, Yahoo! said it had reiterated that it hoped MS could buy a "whole" Yahoo at least 33 dollars per share or renegotiate to buy Yahoo!' search service only. However, MS refused Yahoo!'s two offers. So far, Jerry Yang has been the trouble maker of this case.

"Steve Ballm,Microsoft's chief executive, has no interest in Yahoo unless Mr Yang is no longer around to cause trouble." The news said.

If Yahoo! wants to "cooperate" with MS, Jerry Yang should be kicked out. This is what the news implied. Do you think that Jerry should leave and "free" Yahoo!? Do you believe Icahn and its "new board" will win at the annual meeting of Yahoo!?

Jerry Yang has been the chief of Yahoo! for 14 years. Personally, I think that he should retire from his position. Jerry should learn from Gates. When time is mature, you'd better transfer your power to others. I could understand that why Jerry Yang opposes MS to buy Yahoo!. Since Yahoo! was founded by him, he has deep feelings to Yahoo!. However, as time changes, Yahoo! is starting to fade now. Yahoo! has no other choice.

Icahn and other major shareholder like capital research decided to purge current board members in the coming proxy meeting, the reason apparently is that they have no potential to earn more stakes for yahoo for the long run. That is totally market driven or benefits driven. Jerry Yang is a talented young programmer but better retire from current office as he functions a public corp by way of running a limited partnership or private corp. Yang could 'free' Yahoo if he got a good deal because he has 3.9% of Yahoo ownership. As board member (is he?) and a major share holder, he should have been stay away from senior management to avoid conflicts of interest. I think Icahn and other major holders will employ more outsider board members to monitor senior mgt and hire more expensive senior mgt of high quality. Heard Yang's salary is only 1$, no wonder he would take most advangate of his current 3.9% ownership for best bid price then OUT.
