As the cultural center of China, Beijing does not lack entertainment: From clubs to traditional opera performances, Beijing has it all.
Beijing is a great place to see traditional opera, Chinese acrobatics, and folk arts such as crosstalk and storytelling. These traditional performances can be experienced at many of the theaters and teahouses such as Lao She Teahouse, Beijing Concert Hall, Concert hall of the Conservatory of Music, Beijing Tianqiao Theater, Chang'an grand Theater and Huguang Guild Hall.
If you want to experience the traditional Chinese culture, Hutong would be a good choice. I highly recommend the Houhai area which is near to the Beihai park and is around many Hutongs. Start your day with a stroll in the park and at noon, you can go to some typical Chinese restaurant such as JuDeHuaTian for some traditional Chinese food. And in the afternoon, take your time and walk in different Hutongs. It’s the best way to get to know Chinese culture. When the sun goes down, the Houhai area, which is also known as the bar area, gets crowded with people from various country of the world.
Well, there are so many interesting places to go in Beijing that I can’t list all of them here. If you want to know more, echinacities.com would be a great help! It covers information of almost every aspect of the Beijing city.

Much like any city, Beijing has much to offer. The problem is finding out what is going on and where. When there last summer, our hotel (A Super 8 in the Hutong area downtown)had only 3 month old entertainment magazines and of course, no telephone book.
One internet connected computer in the lobby that was busy most hours could have been useful but it was also very slow.
I think we will be able to divide the time as Pre-Olympics and Post-Olympics as major changes are expected in these matters.

GUEST41189 I couldn't disagree more. The Houhai area is one of many designated tourist spots built up with cookie cutter locations providing over priced services and touts whispering "lady bar... lady bar". I recently went to a Hunan restaurant listed in Lonelyplanet at Houhai, and the food was so bad we didn't finish, and i mention this only because last week i downloaded healthybeijing.com's guide (a non-corporate micro guide to beijing's restaurants) for indigenous cuisine restaurants in beijing, and the hunan pick was half the price and truly phenomenal cuisine, prepared with all organic produce for a chinese and insider clientelle. I also mention this guide because it has some performance venue's listed that are the real thing. Last night we went to a Tibetan restaurant in the guide, and it had a second floor with a mandolin player and an old woman singing, all real tibetan, and the food, the food was imported from the tibetan plateu, and the meat was like nothing i've tasted in my life. I thought colorado beef was good... So much more comfortable than the ostentatious Chinese owned foreign geared restaurants that have "Sambo" like clowns dancing around with plastered smiles making everyone with any humanity uncomfortable, try to step off the tourist path if you want to see the real beijing...
