A friend of mine and I are going to China this June. We will be arriving in Beijing on June 19 and then travel to Xi'an, Suzhou, Shanghai, Guilin and Hong Kong. Can any one tell us what type of weather to expect and what we might want to pack for this travel? Any must see and do? Because we want to show respect for the culture and the people while there what can we do now to prepare? I am new to this forum and tried to post earlier so if this post twice please forgive me. Any advice or suggestions will be appreciated. Youcan post here or e-mail me at yahoo.com|sportennis. Many thanks.

Hi, Sportennis:
The whether of all your destinations will become hot during June, but it is bearable and the temperature is 17-31C (63-88F) on average. You may bring your summer clothes as well as some long-sleeves clothes (in case of rainy days). Personally, I suggest you bring a formal suit if your itinerary includes Tang Dynasty Show, but that’s ok if you just wear casual clothes.

As you are in a package tour, you will of course be guided to the highlights of the city. There are so much to expect in Beijing: Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, Great Wall, Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, etc. In Xi'an you may visit the spectacular Terra-cotta Army and feel the ancient and historical atmosphere of this city. Suzhou is famous for its garden architectures and Suzhou embroidery while the scene in Shanghai will bring you to a different world. Shanghai has become an international metropolis and more and more expats are settling down in this developed city. Hong Kong of course the paradise for shopping sprees, it can be the most crowd city in the world. It is a vibrant city where the traffic never seems to stop and people always seem to be in a hurry.

do not forget sunblock and umbrella! And mosquito killer or sth like that.
Otherwise, you have chosen a most convenient season since all over China seems to have the same temperature.

Mosquito killer? Can I buy that in China or should I bring some? Sounds like the weather will be hot and muggy. Am I right? Should I bring shorts and tennis shoes? How do most dress for the summer season? Is it the rainy season during June? Are hotels airconditioned? What about money? Are there ATMS where I can just draw from my bank account or should I bring cash or traveler's checks?

Thanks for all replies,

Brent

Money
Most hotels have a facilty for changing cash and also some have ATM's You can also obtain money on a Bank Card in ATMs at the Bank of China, at better exchange rates to the hotels. If you need to travel by taxi take a hotel card with you to ensure you can get back, the taxis are an "experience" We travelled onan escorted tour and apart from drinks and Friendship (State) stores had little free time for shopping therefore spent very little. The major spend was on recommended tips for the tour guide and drivers

All the hotels were air conditioned. In August it was very hot and humid, be prepared to buy a constant supply of bottled water, best bought in local supermarkets, usually at least one near hotels

Don't worry, June is not so hot and muggy as July and August and it is just the beginning of summer.some comfortable, casual clothes are ok, here people usually wear sandals, T-shirt, pants or shorts in summer, you may wear tennis shoes for walking comfortably. I think sunglasses or sun protection cap is also needed.
