![]() | It seems that the discussion on cold war and US post-war history is heating. I have a question about McCarthyism and Federal Loyalty Program. I heard that McCarthyism is something like anti-communism but not know much about Federal Loyalty Program. Which of the two policies came first? Was the Federal Loyalty Program proposed by the left leaning politicians? |

![]() | According to Wikipedia::::: The Federal Loyalty Program came first-----1948 McCarthyism followed in the early 1950's Was it proposed by the left leaning politicians? There was a lot of political jockeying between the Democrats , Republicans and even the FBI (to gain more law enforcement advantage) The Republican party was crying "Red Scare" and accusing the Democrats of being soft on Communism. Please note the similarity of today with the" threat of terrorism" used as a political B.S. tool. O.K. back to the story..... It appears that the Democratic President Harry Truman signed into law The Federal Loyalty Program due to pressure from the Republican side in order to maintain popular support for the Democratic Party(huh). And speaking of disloyalty... how about some some of our own people and corporations siding with the NAZIS during WW2....sorry to keep bringing it up.......but that really rubs me raw!! |

![]() | It was during the American Civil War ( 1861-1865) when the Federal Government began requiring loyalty oaths of federal employees. Quite a few civil servants, politicians and Military men left to join the Confederacy and they wanted to be sure the employees they had were still loyal. I knew a few WW2 veterans who disliked the memory of President Roosevelt because they felt he hurt our country by siding with Stalin in the war. Some felt he was duped by Stalin, some felt that Roosevelt had a hidden agenda to help Stalin. The Berlin Airlift of 1948 was the first overt act of the Soviet Union against its former Allies. The 1949 Atomic bomb test by The USSR was known to have been accomplished by using stolen secret technology. The Soviet backing of North Korea's invasion of the South resulted in thousands of lives lost. The Soviet Union had amply demonstrated that it was to be feared. Access to Soviet archives post-1991 showed many claims of subversive and clandestine activities to be correct - though they may have been ridiculed at the time. The Soviet Union was a threat to World stability and they wanted to be seen in that light. |

![]() | MaCarthyism was originated from the US Senator McCarthy's famous speech "card carrying communist" in February 1950. At that time, American governments claimed the domestic threat of Communism. The country tried to get rid of all left-leaning politics. The prevalent credo in that period was "dissent equals disloyalty". The Federal Loyalty Program is more ridiculous. By 1952, 32 states had passed the loyalty oaths, asking people what they read, what organizations they belonged to. House Un-American Activities Committee " HUAC" investigated Hollywood and eventually jailed 10 unresponsive witnesses. >>I knew a few WW2 veterans who disliked the memory of President Roosevelt because they felt he hurt our country by siding with Stalin in the war. Some felt he was duped by Stalin, some felt that Roosevelt had a hidden agenda to help Stalin.<< Yinduffy, I always thought that Roosevelt enjoyed high popularity among average Americans because he led USA out of the aftermath of Great Depression by imposing the New Deal. How many of the average Americans disliked Roosevelt at his time?50%? |

![]() | Those from the Left would have us believe that there was no threat and no subversion from the USSR after the War. In Australia and Britain the Communist parties there where funded and took their orders directly from Moscow. They denied it at the time. Their membership lists were kept a secret. One of Australia’s famous history writers has been revealed to have been a Communist party member. He was awarded the Order of Lenin. He denied receiving this order. They did actively try to infiltrate and control the Labour unions, Education and the entertainment industry. The have since moved on to the environment industry. They had infiltrated many parts of the US government as mentioned by Yinduffy with the stealing of the secrets to make a Bomb just one of the many cases to prove this point. It was clearly not a figment of McCarthy’s imagination. Hollywood is and was a place of Left leaning people. Jane Fonda comes to mind. She should have been sent to jail IMO. Berlin was situated in a part of Germany controlled by the USSR with access by road. The USSR cut this access forcing the Allies to supply the part of Berlin controlled by them by air. This blockade went on for six months until they realized that the West would not hand over their part of Berlin. Russia did not return to it’s borders after the War but forced it’s version of communism on half of Europe. Effectively creating one giant Gulag. They stayed for 50 years. Some of these countries did try to regain their freedom. These attempts were brutally suppressed. People joke now about the “Reds under the bed” phrase .No, not under the bed but in it. I have no problem with people holding different political views to my own. Many do. What I don’t like is someone holding a gun to my head. “I have no gun, but I can spit” Dodger. |
