2 bus blasts kill 2 in Kunming

Two people were killed and 14 injured during the explosions. The first blast occurred at 7:05 am on a a bus on route 54. One passenger was killed and 10 were injured. A witness on the first bus said to reporters that the blast went off just after a short man got off the bus leaving behind a black plastic bag. The second blasts went off at 8:10 am on a bus of the same route in the hub of the city. After the initial investigation, police confirmed that the masterminds had used ammonium nitrate, which is generally used by the military. This blast echoed the blast on a bus in Shanghai two and half months ago, three people were killed in a similar explosion on a bus in Shanghai. Due to the explosions, police has beefed up security in the whole Yunnan province. Police have set up special checkpoints at many places. Security checks at airports, highways and entry and exit points have been beefed up.

Yesterday Kunming Police offers a reward of 100,000 yuan for clues about the two cases of two fatal bus explosions. You are right. It was not an accident. It was a diliberate terror attack in the rush hour.

I just hope that the authorities here do not give them the same amount of oxygen (read publicity) that they do in the West. Dodger.

DAVEC Points: Join Date: Apr 14, 2007 Status: Offline	I do not understand why this bus route was chosen, what is significant about the number 54 bus. Kunming has lots of big buses full of locals and foreigners travelling around Yunnan but it seems a local bus was targetted.
