If Federer and Nadal play doubles, what will happen? Actually Nadal once invited Federer to play Doubles at Madrid in 2006. However, Federer declined Nadal's invitation. Let's imagine: What if Federer and Nadal play doubles? Can they play as well as when they play singles?

It's an interesting proposition Kevin. I assume you mean 'what if Federer and Nadal play doubles *as a team*?'

Although I'm sure they would play great matches together as a team, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't win doubles championship titles.

The reason is really simple. It takes a different set of skills to succeed at doubles compared to singles. Key skills for playing well in doubles include:

- lightening fast reflexes
- excellent volleying technique
- excellent touch at the net

Although Federer and Nadal are both very quick around the court and have excellent ground strokes, their net game is not up to the standards of the best doubles players in the game.
Also their reflexes aren't as sharp as the best doubles players.

They are playing doubles in Toronto this week (not as partners). It will be interesting to see how far they get.

Thanks for reminding me, CANADAGUY. I also doubt whether Federer and Nadal could do a good job if they play doubles as a team. Both of them are excellent in playing singles. However, playing doubles is totally different from playing singles.

Yes, I've read the news. Federer and his partner have done a good job in the first round. I would like to see Federer and Nadal meet in men's doubles. Haven't checked the draws so that I don't if it is possible. Actually, almost of World Top ten male players have registered to play at Olympics. They take Toronto and Cincinnati Master Series as warm-ups for Olympics.

By the way, what do you think of Olympic tennis matches and Grand Slams? I asked this question because one of our new members said "Olympic is a amarteurish-leveled stuff ".
