The ‘rumors’ just remind me of the Cuban Missiles Crisis in 1962. At that moment, some hard-liners in USA even blamed Kennedy as a coward for his handling the crisis. We have better ways to spend our money than leasing bases there. As for the Russians, They are good at playing the innocent victim threatened by big bad America.

GUESTHAWK	Hmmm, President John F. Kennedy was somewhat 'soft'. He chose to launch a blockade of Cuba rather than invade, as some American hardliners wanted. After all, the Soviet leader, Nikita Khrushchev, backed down after 12-day-blockade.
