The torch relay started at the Meridian Gate of the landmark Forbidden City. China’s first atronaut Yang Liwei kicked off the relay. Then he handed over the torch to Liu Qi, president of BOCOG. The Olympic flame will tour in Beijing for three days and altogether 841 torch bearers will join in the relay. The torch traveled 137,000 km across six continents. It was the longest distance of any Olympic torch relay in Olympic history. Bird’s Nest is awaiting the Olympic flame!
