guest72226 Rather than bringing my personal phone to China,
I'd like to buy a cheap one there along with a pre-paid SIM card. Is this a good idea, and will the SIM cards work in multiple cities?

Don't buy one that's too cheap, or else it might not even last the duration of your trip. :P
Not every SIM card works nationwide. You need to make sure you get a Shen Zhou Xing (神州行) SIM card from China Mobile.
