When is the best time?

I am looking to do a short trip through southwestern china, about one month. In the trip I would like to hit the Yuanyang rice terraces. What time period are they flodded with water and what is the weather like during that time. Also, I remember researching an area that had some sort of a golden valley, does anyone remember what the name of that area is? Thanks all!

Going in January would be the best time to see them flooded with water. Weather at that time is generally good, but it could be extremely misty. If you're a keen photographer, you might need to stay a few days to get good shots.
