However, at Beijing Olympics, Russia has got 17 gold medals, ranking behind Great Britain as No.4. Several days ago, Russia even was out of Top Five. The president of Russia Olympic committee said before the Olympics that Russia aimed to claim more than 30 gold medals and 80 medals in all to compete with China for No.2. However, Russia just ranks No.4 now and they just got 17 gold medals and 57 medals in all. It even ranks behind Great Britain. Why did Russia perform so badly at Beijng Olympics? Russia said that there were many factors. The immediate cause is the war between Russia and Georgia. The South Osetia issue has caused great influence on Russian athletes. On the other hand, other countries' sports strength have been greatly improved. Are these the main reasons? What do you think of Russia's performance at Beijing Olympics?

JIMMYB Points: Join Date: Feb 7, 2007 Status: Offline	Yes, Russia did a good job. Although Russia was far behind China and US in the beginning of the Olympics, it catched up with China and US finally, ranking as No.3 in the gold medal table.
