Not by flight, it's too close!
For bus, you'll need to go to Shanghai South long-distance bus station, located just to the south of Shanghai South train station, reachable via the same metro stop, just follow the directions after getting out of the metro stop. Buses to Jiashan cost 30 RMB, take 1 hour and leave every 20-40 mins 0700--1830.
It's also possible to get to Jiashan by bus from Nanjing/Suzhou/Hangzhou.
For train, head to Shanghai South train station or Shanghai main train station. The former can be reached on metro lines 1 (red) and 3 (yellow), the name of the metro stop would be Shanghai South. This station is very much newer, cleaner and easier to find your way around; only drawback is that it takes a bit longer to get here from a central location eg People's Square. The latter is reachable on metro lines 1 (red), 3 (yellow) and 4 (purple), name of the metro stop would be Shanghai train station. Train would cost around 5.5-24 RMB depending on your choice of train and type of seat.
Useful Shanghai South -- Jiashan trains are as follows: N457 (0704--0747, 43 min), 2135 (0956--1039, 43 min), 1597 (1612--1702, 50 min), 2311/2314 (1852--1944, 52 min)
Useful Shanghai -- Jiashan trains are as follows: T791 (0601--0651, 50 min), N429 (0815--0922, 1h07min), N437/N440 (1825--1920)
Useful Jiashan -- Shanghai South trains are as follows: 1598 (0904--1003, 59 min), 2313/2312 (1026--1128, 1h02min), 1528 (1329--1430, 1h01min), 5072 (2035--2134, 59 min), N406/N407 (2135--2231, 56 min)
Useful Jiashan -- Shanghai trains are as follows: N430 (2009--2125, 1h16min), 5136/4137 (2021--2138, 1h17min), T798 (2226--2316, 50 min)
