Korean War correspondent Wei Wei passes away

The renowned Chinese correspondent in Korean War Wei Wei (魏巍) passed away at the age of 88 on August 24. Wei Wei was best known for his article Who Is the Most Lovable (谁是最可爱的人)written in the Korean War. He wrote the news article about the People’s Volunteer Army in the Korean War. He sang highly praise of army’s soldiers as the “most lovable” .

The publication of the article in the People’s Daily on April 11, 1951 made a name for Wei Wei. Chairman Mao Zedong issued an order that the article should be read by the entire PLA. The must-read article has been included in Chinese junior high school textbooks since the 1960s.
