![]() | The relationship between USA and Russia has become tense due to the recent South Ossetia Crisis and the Expansion of NATO. Since Dmitry Medvedev took over the power, he seemed to carry out a tougher foreign policy than his predecessor Putin. He has just said that Russia is not afraid of a new Cold War. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The West was quite annoying. The British Foreign Secretary accused Russia of trying to "redraw the map" of Europe. Russia is not yet reconciled to the new map of this region. Will a "New Cold War" come soon?![]() |

![]() | I just read that Russia asked China's leaders for support in the Georgia situation but the Chinese declined. It seems that they do not approve of a third party coming into a country and helping a "breakaway province" gain international recognition. Russia is not head of a Soviet empire any longer. All the countries that it had under its thumb are now genuinely free to determine their own economic plans and systems of government. If there is a "cold war" it will be more like the situation with Iran - one country shunned by the rest of the world. |

![]() | Will a "New Cold War" come soon? No! Russia is a has-been power. Now, Russia don't have the power to confront the "Western Big Powers". The old mindset of Cold War that the relation between countries is either confrontation or ally should have been abandoned. Cooperation based on mutual benefits and national interests is the main paradigm. |
