From April to June in 2004, CWCA (China Wildlife Conservat Association) had cooperated with several website to hold an activity, aiming at finding China's national bird. About 5 million netizens took part in the activity and 64.92 percent suggested that 丹顶鹤 was the best choice. Later on, CWCA submited a file to the State Council. However, till now, the State Council hasn't approved it yet. Why? The red crane's Latin name is called Grus Japonensis, translated into 日本鹤 (Japanese Crane) in Chinese. Hence, some people think that it is not proper to choose 丹顶鹤 as national bird. Is the name so important? Do you think it is ok to make 丹顶鹤 as China's national bird?

Why can't we make the Red Crowned Crane as China's national bird? Just because of its latin name? Absurd!
