Hello

Is a CELTA for teaching English enough to get jobs in China?
Also is the salary for this enough to live?
Also how long is the visa for this?
Lastly which city to go for and have good shops for buying handbags etc to sell?

Yes, you can get a teaching job with that qualification, but many places will demand a degree. I think you will have most success with a private language centre, but watch out for the cheats. To find jobs, simply search on line and you should get plenty of options. I normally suggest anesl.com as there is lots of info there and it is clear to see what is on offer. Dave's cafe is also well known. Pay varies, private centres often pay quite well but you have more class contact with weekend and evening work. The pay is plenty to live on, in some ways better than in a western country, and others, not so good. Few ex-pat teachers run a car for example (pay levels and regulations) so we save money there. Pay is very low compared with expats who are sent by there companies. For this reason I do not socialise with this crowd, for example beers at 50 rmb in expat bars, rather than say 10 rmb in a reasonable restaurant, 3rmb from a shop, are out of my league.

Employers should provide appropriate documentation to get a visa. Ideally that should be a Z visa which is converted in your first month to a residency permit. However they might just get you an F visa - which although it is not really a work visa, is often used as one. The Z visa/residency permit is typically for the length of your contract and does not entitle you to change jobs without approval. F visas are very variable - your employer gets what they can...and you take it from there! Shanghai, Guangzhou/, Yiwu, ar some obvious places with w/s markets and factories and there are always teaching jobs going in those cities too.

I am currently in Aus and about to return to Guangdong in 2 weeks. I agree about the UK - that's why I left. You should be able to do a CELTA course here. You should get a job here easily at the moment.

You can try this site. I have not checked into the details like prices. I can probably help you get accom in Zhuhai if it is not supplied with the job. Many jobs supply accom, or provide a rent allowance. In most cities rent is not expensive from a foreign teacher's pay (OK there are somne bumn jobs which pay badly, but otherwise u should be fine). Why don't yopu contact the Guangzhou employer who advertised a few days back, see if you can get a job without the CELTA. There is a big shortage of teachers at the momnent I think it was Web International who seem to be quite professional.

If youn want more specific help, like accom etc, pls email me. Contact me using a private msg in here and I will give u my email.
