guestKungFu Question: If I hold a passport of one of the listed countrys, can I go to Shanghai and stay there for one night and do some sightseeing without a visa before continue my journey?
Visas are not required of Citizens of the following countries, who transit through Pudong Airport or Hongqiao Airport of Shanghai, provided they hold valid passports, visas for the onward countries, final destination tickets and have booked seats, and stay in Shanghai for less than 48 hours:
Japan, Republic of Korea, United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Greece.

Yes you should be able to do this. I stayed there on this basis whhile waiting for a flight the next morning. The only concern at the moment is whether this continued through the Olympic/Paralympic period and if not, has it been made available again yet.

GUEST19862 I will travel to the Philippines this coming December via Shanghai. I will have a 9 hours stopover there (24h when going back).
My question: Do I only have to show the official my passport, ticket for the connection flight and so on and than I am allowed to stay in Shanghai without a visa for 48 hours? Do they make a sign into my passport? What if I got held up by the police while walking aroung outside of the airport? Do I have to bring all the documents necessary to prove that I am only in transit?

Thanks,
Gernot
