GUEST11775 I think pizza came from the Naples. yeah, the Bacon Scallion Pancakes came from China, and the idea of the fillings on top was from Italy, but when you narrow it down it's really truly from NAPLES! Because the cook started cooking up different tastes for the pancake, until it had a totally different taste! so I truly belive that pizza originates from Naples

GUEST52252 Im from Texas inside america, and i'm eating pizza right now. Yes the fast food stuff doesn't have a soul, but it's convenient and fast when you need it. Someday i would like to go to a nice sit-down restraunt in Italy and get the real stuff. Overall, Italy invented pizza in my opinion, however it was influenced by other countries.

GUEST12872 Pizza has been in Italy since at least the 900's, well before Marco Polo.
Nor is it named after the town of Pisa.

GUEST110 So then i will also answer here...
Wow... How can you come from: Pizza > God > Politics > Americans > Greece > Pizza...???
I love Pizza, both forms the fat and unhealthy one and the "healthy" Italian style one.
I also belief that Pizza comes from Italy, sure in China they have there (sorry forgot the name) what looks a bit like a pizza (if you cut it right) But for me it looks more like pancake or similar... because if i know it right you dont really bake it...
And would we go after "who-cooked-the-first-time-something-similar-as-Pizza" We can go from China, over Greece to Germany. (We put a looong time long already chesse and ham on bread.. put it in the oven and you have a "primitive" Pizza.
Small but very tasty if you dont have pizza at hand.
Because this i say that it comes from Italia. They made it as we know it today, they made it as we love it (most of us). Is the Chinese (forgot the name) famous? Nope... Pizza is famous. As i said.. we dont know from where the cook had this idea.. but how we know it it was first made in Italy.

GUEST22899 BARONTWANGLE never have a met a more complete idiot than yourself. America can have pizza huts and taco bells because we have a system called....FREEDOM. FREEDOM that is second to none, a democracy no one but us enjoys and the military to blow to kingdom come whatever country you seem to think is so much better.

Pizza is a fusion from many different cultures and many different creations and over the years finally coming together. Rome had a type of pizza, napoleon was said to have eaten a type of pizza, and of course france was credited with a type of pizza. It came from many places, and pizza hut is not the best pizza. Go to a good pizzaria one who used fresh ingredients and bakes it up on a nice brick oven, thats some real good stuff.

GUEST23411 Baron-Hey why do you have to single out all Americans? Not all of us are like that, and not all Americans are dumb either. I, for one, am not a "typical american idiot." I have a 3.5 out of a 4.0 gradepoint average, and also i am only 17 years old and a sophmore in high school, and all of my individual subject levels are at least on the same level as someone in their sixth year in college. My IQ is 165. 150 and up are genius level. So I am not an idiot.

P.S. Pizza originated in Naples, Italy, but was based off of an ancient Chinese recipe f a different name. Pizza was named after the city of Pisa, Italy, although it's spelled in the english language Pizza.

actually the ORIGINAL ITALIAN pizza did'nt have tomatoes on it either. tomatoes weren't introduced to europe until the spanish conquistadors brought them from the americas in the 16th century, long after the first pizza wasalready made. They were actually believed to be poisonous at first by most Eurpeans.

GUEST23411 The history of pizza has been, and is contentious, for we can never know which nation invented pizza, but pizza history is no less colorful for that fact. As we cannot know the date when the first pizza was invented ,we can only speculate who invented pizza.

Pizza, as we know it today, is a bread crust covered with a tomato base and then flavored with other toppings. Yet tomatoes did not appear on European menus until the Sixteenth Century, when they were brought over from the New World (The Americas) by the Spanish conquistadors. Pizza as we know it today, with a crust, tomato and other toppings, was even later in history; it did not originate until the eighteenth Century in Naples .

Italian folklore claims that the first pizza was Italian, and it is certain that in ancient times the ancient Greeks and Romans had a type of unleavened bread, topped with a flavor before being baked. We know from historical writings that the Greek pizza was merely vegetables, but the origin of the pizza in Italy was more sophisticated. It was topped with pork scraps, olives and the sweet desserts with honey, raisins and pine nuts. Some of those sweet dessert pizza recipes have been enshrined in pizza history and are still used in Italy today.
