Where have all the foreigners gone?

guest03163 Hi, am i the only expat left in Xian? Where are you hiding? I know there are difficulties with visas and the economy at home, but even the Youth Hostels are fairly empty. If you're an expat living in Xian, drop me a line.

You are right: visas. I am tolf Guangzhou will start issuing visas as normal from today. If so I guess that applies to other offices too.

GUEST03163 Are you based there? I'm thinking of moving from Xian to an area where there is more of an expat community. Many people pass through Xian but not many people seem to stay. I am told the pay is lower here than in other provinces. I don't want to live in an area swamped by westerners but i would like more contact than i have right now. Any ideas?

I was based near Gz and will be returning to Guangdong in a couple of weeks. There are a lot of "guai lo" (my best guess at the Cantonese colloquial for foreigner) in Gz, but nowhere near as many as in Shanghai. There are a couple of Gz expat websites, u might try guangzhou.asiaxpat.com
