| Many countries have the ‘national birds’ to represent the countries. For example, Kiwi is the national bird of New Zealand. China is deciding upon which bird represent China as the ‘National Bird’. So far, the red-crowned crane has been selected as the only candidate for China’s “National Bird”. Nevertheless, the red-crowned crane’s international official name is “Japanese Crane”. It is inappropriate to call Chinese national bird “Japanese crane”. Some netters nominated sparrow as the candidate for China’s National Bird. What do you think? How many countries have “national birds”? |

| The sparrow has to be the mostly truly international bird there is: it is present in just about every part of the world. In Britain it is informally a symbol for London where it often called a Cockney sparrow (A cockney is a native of East London). So this does not seem a great candidate as a Chinese national bird. |
