好容易 VS 好不容易?
Oct 8, 2008 04:45
guest4267 I am a bit confused about the difference between 好容易 and 好不容易. Do they mean the same thing? To my understanding, I think 好容易 means "do something easily" and 好不容易 means reversely. Am I right?

GUEST20798 No. sometimes 好不 means pretty or extraordinary orally, so sometimes 好不容易 will be easier than 好容易. But if the stress is at 不,好不容易 means " pretty hard " . when heard the word like this , have to understand accord to context and the speaker's tone. Normally , you are right, I don't think chinese will use the first usage of 好不容易 to a foreigner.

hehe . to be a 25 years native of beijing , i give you the correct answer .

好容易,好不容易 have the same mean , one put a lot of efforts then secessfully do something . although 不 means nagetive , but here it is not the negative meaning .

similarly , i give you another example . 德国足球队大胜美国队,德国足球队大败美国足球队 maybe you know that 胜,败 have the opposite meaning , but , the key to this two sentens is 德国 at the front of 美国.
