Travel as a Minor

guestA49247 Hello, I am 16 years old and I live in the United States. I would like to go to China (particularly Beijing) with no parents and no tour group or anything. Is that possible for a minor to do? I've been to China before, and I recall that at every company-ish hotel the group I was with went to, we had to present our passport and go through a really bureaucratic process to stay at the hotel. However, would I be able to stay at hostels or smaller hotels as a minor? If anybody knows of any way I can do this, I would really appreciate answers :D

Guest, your first step may be to get the permission of your parents.
Some airlines have rules about unaccompanied minors traveling as well.
I sent my youngest son from Sydney to London when he was just 16, but he was collected by his big brother at the other end. I briefed him on all of the procedures as it was a transit flight as even seasoned travelers sometimes get confused with departure gates etc. The airline may assist in this?
Do you speak any Chinese? It would help!
How would you fund your stay? You would also have to be familiar with exchange rates otherwise you may (will) be robbed blind!
Your local Chinese Consulate would possible be able to help with any regulations that they have in regards to your travel planes.
Good luck.
Cheers, Dodger.
