World's 2nd highest airport opens in Sichuan

Kangding Airport, the world’s second highest airport, was opened on October 22 in Kangding Tibetan region of Sichuan Province.

The Airport was built at an altitude of 4,280 meters. It is second only to Qamdo in Tibet Autonomous Region which has an altitude of 4,334 meters.

Kangding, capital of the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, is a popular tourist destination. It takes only about 35 minutes to travel by air from Kangding to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Proviince. The local government is building highways from the airport to the main tourist spots in Garze.
