Is it currently possible to convert an L visa to a Z visa in Hong Kong if one can provide the necessary documentation (work permit, etc)?

(I am an American citizen)

If not, would Thailand work, or would one need to return to the US?

Many thanks to anyone who can help!

You cannot convert visas. However you can apply for a new one, which if granted, cancels the old one. If you have the documentation, you should be able to get the visa in HK. If you want it quickly you pay a higher fee, otherwise it takes 4 working days. If you can lodge before 10- am u should get it at the end of the day, else it will be available the next day 10 am.

I have not tried Thailand, but I believe u can apply there but I don't see any advantage. I would choose HK as it is well geared up fior this

very quickly - what is the office in Hong Kong that takes care of this/where do you go? seems like there is presently no Chinese consulate in Hong Kong (no surprise). Foreign affairs bureau??? Trying to figure out who to call to make sure we have all the right documentation.

many thanks,

travis

GUEST16118 I'm also looking for information on this. Is there any way to apply for and receive the replacement visa remotely? I'm just curious if there is a service that can transact on my behalf in Hong Kong, instead of having to go there myself.

Cheers,
Adam

Yesterday I posted details on where to go, tho I have forgotton the address. I also included a small map.... you should be able to find it among the top posts in this forum Other posts in the past have the name and address.

It is not an FAB, and it cannot be a consulate, I have forgotton the name that is used tho.

There is no 'proper' way of applying remotely. Yes services can do it on your behalf, but the problem is that you will not have an entry stamp in your passport from actaully entering. ( I once did this as I was in the UK and had to apply in Aus, but I got the entry stamp as I was outside China ). Mostly this is no problem, but if for any reason their is a close scrutiny (happened to me once) then it might be an issue!

If you are in Beijing, you can get Residence Permits without going to HK or your home country through some agents.
