| After melamine scandal, another crisis related to food safety has happened. A rumour said that 10,000 tonnes of tangerines in Guangyuan of Sichuan province had been infected by fruit flies. And Sichuan province denied this and said that only 12 tonnes were destroyed and that the situation was under control. However, some cities such as Harbin and Guangzhou has found some tangerines contained fruit flies as the reports said. Very disgusting! Because of this rumour, people dare not buy and eat tangerines. The scare has caused huge ecnomic losses. According to Reuter's report, the total economic losses have reached 400 million yuan ($57 million) so far and the figure is expected to rise if the crisis can't be solved as quickly as possible. The wholesalers dumped bad tangerines on the streets in Urumchi. Actually, those tangerines were good. Since no one wanted them, they turned bad and the wholesalers had to dump them all. |

| The rumour is not completely untrue. The infected tangerines have been found in other places except Guangyuan. If the situation is really under control, the infected tangerines shouldn't be found in other places. There is another explanation: Tangerines in other places have also been infected. |
