guest24854 I need to take an engagement ring to my fiance' in china. Does anyone know what is involved at customs declaration so far as duty or taxes? I can not get the chinese embassy to answer the phone in the states and any information I have found only says that I am allowed to bring up to 2 ounces of personal gold or silver. Can anyone help me?

GUEST91163 thank you for your reply, but i still do not understand. I can't simply wear a woman's small diamond ring on my finger. That would obviously not be my ring. What about carrying a diamond engagement ring in as a gift to be left in that country? I can't find any informaiton. Do you have any further info? Thanks.

GUEST71178 I brought a ring into China with a valuation of approximately 20,000 US $. It was well over the limit so I declared it at customs. They took a casual look at it and waved me through.
