There're only 2 D trains for this route. I would advise buying much further in advance than 2 days!
If you need me to help with train tickets, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" in the subject line, thanks.

The one and only D train for this route takes 4h17min. Most other trains take 5-7 hours, and the slowest takes 9h28min.
The bus takes 3.5-4 hours. If the D train timing doesn't fit you, I'd opt for the bus.

What is your monetary definition of "affordable price"?
For Anji -- Hangzhou you should take a bus and I think it takes about 1 hour.

You arrive very late at Hangzhou. My suggestion is: find a place to have a rest and then go to Nanjing next morning.

If you still want to go to Nanjing after you arrive, just hire a taxi to take you to Hangzhou Railway Station (also called 城站火车站). Then you can take train to Nanjing. It takes around 6.5 hours from Hangzhou to Nanjing by train. You might get exhausted.

If you have a rest in Hangzhou, you can go to Hangzhou Railway Station next morning to take D trains. It is faster. Just takes around 4.5 hours.

GUESTALOYSIUS Planning for a 3 cities (Nanjing, Suzhou and Hangzhou) visit this month.

1st stop Nanjing (taking a bullet train from Shanghai). Can someone advice me which is the most convenience 2nd stop after Nanjing (Hangzhou or Suzhou)? As we have limited time therefore we prefer to spend less time on the road. Travelling by bullet train after nanjing will be most ideal

Departing from Shanghai Pudong Airport.
