Do 班机 (Ban 1 Ji 1) and 航班 (Hang 2 Ban 1) mean the same thing?

guest3363 What is the difference between 班机 (Ban 1 Ji 1) and 航班 (Hang 2 Ban 1)? Does 航班 just mean flight number, for example, CA1831? If I am right, what does 班机 mean? Just the airplane itself?

航班 should be used before the flight number ,航班 1831;班机 should be used after the flight number ,1831 次 班机。
