Well, I have fallen completely in love with the China. I've worked for a western company who has factory in Guangdong province, and i have been there many times to implement new products.
However, I have now lost my job, and I was thinking that this is a great opportunity to maybe get new job in China, and come to live there.
But I dont really know how to break the ice. I have looked at some chinese job sites like e.g Meijob, but most of the jobs has very high education requirements like bachelor degrees, which I dont have.
What I have, is many years experience in manufacturing (quality management, proces optimizing etc.) and good knowledge of chinese vs. western work culture.
So I am thinking that I could be of some value to several companies.
Does anybody have some advice to what I can do to fulfil my dream of becoming an expat in China??
Thanks!

To get a job in an area other than teaching is not easy. You would normally be expected to have very specialist skills and the qualifications, including a degree, to support them. However, if you speak Chinese there are more possibilities and you will just have to keep looking for ads in Chinsese por in the expat webpages that many cities have. Realistically, there are few jobs for people in your situation and the government would not readily support employers who might be interested. I would suggest you investigate getting a job from your own country, one that will send you here becuase of yr skills.

Alternatively, you might find a job teaching English or your own native language, but again your lack of a degree reduces the possibilities. Private language cenres and Kindies are probably your best options,

Teaching jobs will not compensate you to what you are accustomed to in the US. And I believe niether will a local job. As Apault said, an expat from a US company is the best bet, but current economic problems makes that unlikely. Plus I have noticed that age dicrimination is normal in China, so if you are older than 40, you are out of luck. Unless you have some new high tech expertise the only other option is to open your own business. Good luck, I feel the same way and looking into the business route lol.

Well, I said i had fallen in love with China, but certainly not in the Chinese system..... I will not even begin to think about how difficult it must be for a foreigner to start own business in China! And i'm not sure that teaching English is my thing. So this is not looking too good for me.

My Chinese GF (and soon to be wife) is having our first baby next summer, so i guess you guys can understand why this is so important to me......

But thanks for your help anyway.

What about talking to some of the Chinese companies that you have previously worked with on visits to China and see if they may be prepared to offer you something in the way of a consulting position with their companies.

The above advice is sound but if you have a Chinese wife then opening your own business could be the best option for you both. there are many foreigners here operating businesses but I personally have no idea what they have to go through to get things going.

It helps if you have some local assistance which your wife, family and friends may be able to help with.

Don;t give too readily............

All the best for you and your new family
