| China has launched a campaign to crack down on major websites that was charged for threatening morals by spreading pornography and low-class, vulgar contents. Until January 19th, 726 websites have been closed down for failure of cutting the vulgar content. The nationwide crackdown campaign was launched by China’s Ministry of Public Security and six other government agencies, aiming to clean up a vulgar current on the Internet. The officials pointed out that these websites contains *** , low-class and even vulgar contents that violating public mores and harming the physical and mental health of youth. Last month, Shanghai police arrested a woman who uploading a video of herself having sex on his blog, and stirred an online sensation. China has about 300 million registered netizens. Many of the users are in their teens, have blogs on the internet. The censorship is hard to carry out. The authority is trying to employ more advanced filtering software to detect banned content. Major websites including the dominant search engines Baidu and Google are being censored and ordered to cut the vulgar content. |
