Z visas issued in Hong Kong to Americans?
Jan 21, 2009 21:26
guest76226 Can anyone tell me if it is still possible for Americans to have the Z visa issued in Hong Kong? My husband just tried in Chiang Mai and was told he needed to go to his home country, but I thought I'd heard of people getting the Z visa issued in Hong Kong.

Thanks

Yes he should be able to get his visa from Hong Kong. I have done so (Aus passport) and there is always a full range of nationals applying there.

One issue is that the paperwork supplied by the employer must state which country the application will be processed. That might be why he was refused in Chiang Mai. So I suggest you check the employer's paperwork: if it says the US, it is likely to mean he can only apply there. I had a similar situation and the employer was unwilling to redo the paperwork as it woukld have meant redoing much of their application. In my case I was in the UK and mailed my visa application to an agent in Australia. You cannot do that from the mainland as the Post Office will not allow it, though I understand you could send it by courier....of course you would have to hope you don't need yopur passport while it is being processed in the US!

GUEST48250 I am in need of a Working Visa (Z) for china, and was under the impression I could go to Hong Kong to obtain it- however, my Chinese boss is now saying that we can no longer do this and must go back to our home countries to obtain it? Is this true? Or can I go to HK still? And if I can, where is there an official statement posted or website that I might show him in order to back my argument?

You should be able to obtain thge visa in HK. I did about a year ago, post Olympics. Unfortunately I haven't met anyone who has done this more recently.

It is possible that the rules have been tightened to disallow this, but I doubt it. Contact a visa agent (some advertise in TCG) and ask...of course they may say it can only be done through them. If so I would be cconfident you can do it yourself.

I would put pressure on the employer to explain where he gets the info from and / por to just do the paperwork fporm HK and you will try. Imply you will not stay if you have to go back to the US.

I will ask around to see what elase I can find out.
