The new President of USA has signed an executive order to close the detention center at Guantánamo Bay on January 22, 2009.

The military prison at Guantanamo Bay was the potent symbol of George Bush’s “ War on terror”.
The prison was founded in January of 2002. The detention center was criticized for its harshest interrogation techniques. Obama pledged that he would shut down the prison during his election campaign. He thought the prison has tarnished USA’s image.

The executive order reads: "In view of significant concerns raised by these detentions, both within the United States and internationally, prompt and appropriate disposition of the individuals currently detained at Guantánamo and closure of the facility would further the national security and foreign policy interests of the United States and the interests of justice."

"The message that we are sending around the world is that the United States intends to prosecute the ongoing struggle against violence and terrorism and we are going to do so vigilantly," Obama said. "We are going to do so effectively and we are going to do so in a manner that is consistent with our values and our ideals."

As has recently been mentioned numerous times in the U.S. news .....if these detainees weren't really
terrorists when entering Guantanamo Bay ..... then, they damn sure are now !!

Terrorist....a term concocted by elitist to enable a continuous phantom war at everyone's expense but their own.

YES, we can use some Taliban, Hamas or perhaps Hezbollah peace loving overtures and reject the hate pack term applied to these peaceful animals that have suffered enough on the hands of the cruel west, Russia and the Chinese for the same matter.
Can you take one of these little angels (terrorist) at home, and offer love and understanding?
There are over two hundred of them in Guantanamo that need adoption…

The closure of Guantánamo Bay prison marks the stepping-down of Bush, and the first step of Obama's "CHANGE".

I doubt the base will close any time soon, especially with news like this FROM CNN:

A Saudi national released from U.S. detention at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in September 2007 is believed to be a key leader in al Qaeda's operations in Yemen, according to a U.S. counterterrorism official.

The Defense Department recently estimated that more than 60 terrorists released from Guantanamo may have returned to the battlefield.

According to the counterterrorism official, Ali al-Shiri traveled to Yemen after being released to Saudi Arabia and may have been involved in recent al Qaeda attacks in Yemen, including a car bombing outside the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa last year that killed nearly a dozen people.

Obama it is a Socialist by upbringing, China It is a Socialist nation, China has not let the terrorists loose in to the population.
China has not closed any detention center as a way peace and security measures.

I speculate if Mr. Leonardo will like to sponsor one of the Chinese victim’s presently at Guantanamo.
