Great.......thanks for all the information it is a big help. China is such a big country that it is hard to know where to start, but we would prefer to be somewhere where the cost of living is a little lover than Beijing or Shanghai, but also where we can have a good opportunity to study Mandarin & find work.

From what you have said it seems that 5000RMB should be enough to live on.

Thanks again and I will read up on the cities you mentioned!

I'm wondering how one can teach English to Chinese students if one does not know Chinese Mandarin.

The same way that one learns Mandarin without one knowing English.

Native English teachers are usually required for teaching phonetics or pronunciation. They are accompanied in the classroom by a Chinese English teacher or English speaking assistant.
