According to the statistics released by Chinese government yesterday, more than 20 million migrant workers have lost their jobs and got back to their homes due to the global financial crisis. In othe words, about 15.3 percent of Chinese migrant workers have lost their jobs.

"The job losses are the direct result of the global economic crisis and its impact on export-oriented manufacturers." An Chinese official said. He also warned that such a great deal of migrant workers woulb be a big challenge to social stability.

BTW, this figure is much higher than that of 12 million that Premier Wen Jiabao said.

I think there is no need to worry about social estability because of recent job cuts. Most of the people who recently lost their job especialize in one trade or the other. I see a boom in ‘work from home’ type business or working culture. Various business groups have already started to use virtual assistants as an alternative to their permanent employees.

GUESTHAN ..and another 40 million more have lost their jobs and their incomes... there will be more millions to come - a sad but inevitable result of major market collapse in the US, UK, Europe, Asia...

The Chinese people will have to be resilient and pragmatic, and NOT resort to any protest to disturb the social harmony of China - this is SO important for the country and the Chinese people.

We here in Singapore / Malaysia are also facing massive unemployment, about 100,000 retrenched as a result of the world's depressed economy. This is significant number when the total population of both countries is approx 30 million.

So my fellow comrades in China, we know the hardships you are all facing and going through but we must be patient and not lose hope in the future. China has one of the brightest future in the world - there is no doubt!

The unemployment of the migrant workers is a serious issue. However, China has to take care of another issue, the employment of college graduates. It is estimated that there will be 6.5 million graduates in 2009. The employment pressure has become tougher than ever.
