When I way young, I remembered that my dad was in charge of our family finances. If my mom or I needed money, we had to "report" it to my dad. Later on, my mom required that she wanted to be in charge of our money. My dad agreed. However, my mom quit her job three months later. Why? She said that it was not an easy job to deal with family finances. Right now, they cooperate together to take charge of our family finances. My mom is in charge of daily expenses and my dad is responsible for big spendings. Of course, he need to consult with my mom before making his decision.

In your home, who is in charge of your family finances?

In my homecity, bookkeeping of daily expense and monthly employment income is done by men. If fixed asset is needed, husbands need to consult with wives before purchasing and bookeeping is done by husbands as well. As for investment strategy, they consult with each other. Although men are prone to technical anaysis, women' intuition counts more in stock market.

In today's China, women usually play the role of "financial minister". Men have to hand in their salary to their wives. So did you marry a Chinese girl, Gary?

Well,....no.
The fact that my wife handles the finances is nothing more than a sign of laziness on my part.
Besides, it makes her feel important.(I guess??)
I did not realize that this was a Chinese cultural trait...........Hmmmmm.

GUEST18186 Gary, your monthly comsumption on coffee, cigarretes and liqor per month should be closely scrutinized by your wife since it seems that you often work 24/7 a week being energized by those stuff. Over usage of energizers make biological clock turbulent and hurt health. As the economic developement theory says that Stop-Go is more sustainable than Shock Theropy...

How smart you are, Gary. Letting your wife be in charge of your family finances not only makes her feel she is important but also lighten your burden. It is true that women take charge of family finances in some Chinese families. The husbands hand in their salary to their wives and they just get some "pocket money" from their wives. Aside from the pocket money, they usually keep a secret purse that their wives don't know.

Soothsayers....digging into the recesses of my mind.
Whether it's energetic and hazardous to the health or supposedly a smart move with the wife.
Oh well........!! Thanks for the advice.

Shopping, house chores and booking expense are seoncd job for working couples and they're time-consuming. taking care of child education and outside door activities, booking bills and bills inquiry usually done by men, while women usually do cooking, cleaning. As for family finance, like insurance, rrsp, tax planning, estate planning and family financing , men and women usually consult with each other. Building and maintainng a family is not a easy task. The time you are eligible for enjoy life is the time you are close to the grave.

I think dealing in any familiy finances is a joint responsibility. As both of us are working hence we spend with mutual consultation. There is no question of being incharge of finances in my family.
