Any suggestions for towns or cities to visit within 2-3 hours road travel from Xiamen?

I'll be arriving in Xiamen late afternoon on 9th April 2009. A friend suggested staying at the Xiamen Plaza Hotel. Anyone can comment on this hotel? As I'll be there for around 10 days, I would like to visit surrounding towns or cities that are not too far away and does not cost a lot to get there.

Any views/tips on Shantou and Fuzhou?

GUEST30174 try Hua Quiao 4 star hotel or Hua Xia 3 star Hotel across the main road front of Xiamen Plaza. .

Easiest choice would be Quanzhou.
