"China aircraft carrier" has become the most heated word recently. On March 20, Liang Guanglie, China’s Secretary of Defense, said that China should have its own aircraft carrier during a meeting with his Japanese counterpart. Then some Japanese reports claimed that “Chinese top military officials confirm that China will build its own aircraft carrier”. Some media even says that China will make the Asian security situation more complicated if it builds aircraft carrier. Again, “China Threat Theory” is raised again. The media also calls on Japan to take some actions against China.

A report has made a prediction that China leaders will announce the plan to build aircraft carrier next month. Do you think China will build its own aircraft carrier very soon?

GUESTHAN I really hope they do. China needs to build up a fleet of naval battle-groups centred around the aircraft carriers (like the US). It would be in China's longterm interests to defend its territories because the best form of defense is being in a vantage position geographically to strike closer to the heart of any would-be enemies.
