Hi,

I'm traveling to China in May and I will be spending the weekend in Fenghuang. I would like to leave Fenghuang sometime after 8:pm on Saturday night and travel to the three gorges. (I do not want to take the whole cruise route from Chongqing.) I need to get to the train in Wuchang by 9:00 pm on Sunday night to return to Hong Kong. (Or at least the 11 pm train.)
Is there any way of doing this? If so, how? Bus, train, taxi, boat, etc.
Thanks so much!

There're only 2 daily trains for Jishou -- Yichang and they don't leave in the evening but rather during the wee morning hours or early morning. However they should be good enough for you to complete what you intend to do. Be prepared for lousy trains though.

Jishou -- Yichang:
1258 (0237--0922) 6h45min
1474 (0714--1600) 8h46min

Take train 1258 and you could see the dam after you arrive in Yichang.
What do you mean by "need to get to the train in Wuchang by 9:00 pm on Sunday night to return to Hong Kong"? What are you trying to do here?

Thanks so much!

I'm trying to return to Hong Kong via a sleeper train on Sunday night.

I believe there are trains from Wuchang to Guangzhou and Shenzhen overnight.

Is there a better way to do it?

thanks,

I presume that you mean you need to arrive in Hong Kong by Mon, am I right?
You have a few choices, including a direct train for Yichang -- Guangzhou, or a direct train Wuchang -- Hong Kong.

Yichang -- Guangzhou:
2288//2285 (1919--1147) 16h28min

This would probaby be the most convenient as you won't need to transit twice (ie once in Wuhan and 2nd time in Guangzhou/Shenzhen). However this train takes relatively long.

Wuchang -- Hong Kong:
T97 (2333--1256) 13h23min

Same advantage as above, only 1 transfer required (ie Wuhan). However this train only leaves every other day, so it might not fit your schedule. When are you travelling?
Next best would probably be Wuchang -- Shenzhen as Shenzhen is closer than Guangzhou is, to the border.

Wuchang -- Shenzhen:
T95 (1736--0613) 12h37min
T67 (1915--0727) 12h12min
T175 (2037--0906) 12h29min

If transiting via Guangzhou, it would be more convenient to arrive at Guangzhou East train station as that's where trains to Hong Kong leave from. Thus you would save on having to take taxi/metro between Guangzhou main and East train stations. I've only listed the trains going to Guangzhou East train station for this case.

Wuchang -- Guangzhou East:
T12/T13 (0011--1102) 10h51min
T238/T235 (2045--0804) 11h10min
K237/K240 (2139--1003) 12h24min
K259 (2222--1109) 12h47min
T97 (2333--1010) 10h37min

If you've more queries, email directly to yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username (eg Sari) in the subject line, thanks.
