Hi all,

I am a United Kingdom citizen and live with my wife and kids in London. In December 1995 (yes 13.5 years ago!) I was arrested in America whilst studying at University for supplying a miniscule quantity of marijuana to someone. I was fined $800, put on probation and carried on my studies until graduation when I left the USA and came back to the UK.

I have since built a good career and my current job requires me to go to China for a week in a month or so and then regularly afterwards for week long visits every 6 months or so.

I have looked at the China visa application form and intend to tick YES to question 3.3 admitting I have a criminal record in another country. I will make a face to face appointment at the embassy to apply for the visa. Having read other posts on this forum, I will dress professionally for the appointment, briefly explain the circumstances around my arrest whilst expressing remorse. I have got a police certification confirming no criminal convictions in the UK.

For anyone else that has been through this procedure, please can you let me know what other documentation or information you submitted when applying for your visa and if your visa was granted or denied?

Given the above information, do you feel that I will get the visa or will there be issues?

Am I doing a silly thing admitting to the USA conviction given it was 13.5 years ago and as I am a UK citizen and will be applying through the UK embassy?

Thanks for your help,

Richard.
