guestmeetup1026 Hi all, I am traveling in China (all over the place) in June and I was hoping you could help me answer some questions.

I get in to Shanghai Pudong airport at 6:30 pm Sunday... and I need to get to Jinan, Shandong. I can't decide if I should buy a plane ticket or just take the over night train. If I buy a plane ticket the latest one is at 9pm and it's all the way at hongqiao airport so I'm not sure if I'll make that one. Should I just take the train instead? I am traveling by myself (female) would it be safe to just get a hardsleeper?

I've read on the forum that I should take No. 5 shuttle to the train station but given that I probably won't get out of the airport until pretty late, should I just take a direct taxi? Suggestions?

Also, should I buy the train ticket once I'm there? because I wont know which one to take in case my flight gets delayed. Or should I buy a ticket online or something. Do you know if the first weekend of June (especially on a Sunday night) would be hard to procure a sleeper ticket?

I know this is starting to be a ridiculously long post but I do have a couple more questions. I'll be traveling to Lijian as well later on in June but I need to get back to Guangzhou for my flight out of China. The train ride I know can be over 24 hours. What are the alternatives. Does anyone know of a place where I can buy cheap airfare? So far they've all been 1790 RMB.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

GUEST61119 ah, I'm a Chinese.
The 1st thing that i can asure you is travelling by train, esp. hardsleeper, will be safe! don't worry about it.
Secondary, When you take off the plane you'd better buy a train ticket at the airport for good. Then you may take a taxi directly to the trainstation, about 40 Km way, 150RMB at most.not too far, not too dear.
Thirdly, train ticket will be tight only in the Spring Festival (Feb), Workers' Day (May) and National Day(Oct), so don't worry about the ticket, esp in weekend! I mean it should be easy to buy a hardsleeper at that time. Good luck!!
At last, I'm a Guilin citizen! but now i study in Wuhan City, far away from home...you'll made a fantasy trip in Guilin, i promise you!
If I was on my vacation back home at that time, i'll be gald to give you my hand face to face. of course, if you need that.haha...
there should have some discount of arifare from Guilin to Guangzhou. you need to get a local guy's help to order it.

My E-Mail address is qq.com|georgejane contact me when you need, best wishes!

I seriously doubt you'll be able to make it for the 2100 flight out of Hongqiao, so taking the overnight train might be a better choice.
Yes, hard sleeper is fine. I'm also female and regularly travel by hard sleeper.
Taking airport shuttle no.5 (for Shanghai main train station) or a taxi to the train station would be fine.
I would really recommend that you buy train tickets in advance, otherwise I doubt you'll be able to get sleeper tickets at all. Yes, it might not be a major holiday, but trains are an extremely popular method of travel in China! I think you should try to aim for T106 (2152--0654) leaving from Shanghai main train station.
1790 RMB for what flights exactly? You might want to consider saving money by flying to Kunming then taking overnight sleeper bus to Lijiang, instead of flying to Lijiang. Same method for leaving Lijiang as well. BTW, I presume you mean Lijiang in Yunnan province, not Li Jiang (Li River) in Guangxi province.
If you've any more queries, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username in the subject line, thanks.
