Tipping in China

I have read that one should not tip (give a gratuity) in China. I also read that tour managers, guides and drivers can be given tips. Any body know?

Basicly, you don't have to tip in CHina. But why bother if they offer you the good sevice. And they'd like to accept.We use to tip our taxi driver 10%.:)

That's the situation several years ago. Now many tour guides in China live only on the tips, their employer will not pay them due to the low profit of Chinese travel services.

Usually recommended rate is $10 (at least)per day for the guide and $5 for the driver.

i am afraid to say most of inbound tour guide live on comission.

That depends on whether you enjoy the service they provide you. If you are satisfied with the service from your tourguide and driver, tipping is needed. Usually you need only tip your guide and driver.

Actually Chinese don? know about giving a tip. It came along with foreigners and tourism.

BUT of course it is a nice way to appreciate a good service. It is encouraging to get a tip for delivering a good job!
