 | I havent been here before, I will be taking a ferry from Shekou early and returning same way later in the day. I am really only interested in the old parts of Macau not the modern areas and casinos, can anyone suggest the must see places. I cant seem to find a decent street map online. |

| Hi Davec, For a day trip, may I suggest the following areas - Ruins of St. Paul's. Barrier Gate (Portas do Cerco) situated at the northern most point of Macau. It was erected in 1870. The border is open from 7 am to midnight. Guia Fortress and Lighthouse was built in the 17th century and stands on the highest point of Macau. Temple of Kun Iam built more than 600 years ago. This was the place where, in 1844, the first treaty of trade and friendship was signed between China and U.S.A. In the garden is the famous intertwined "lovers' tree". Temple of A-Ma was built 500 years ago and is considered to be the oldest in Macau Bus No: 10. The Maritime Museum is located nearby. Penha Church was built on top Colina da Penha or Penha Hill, also known as Bishop Hill because of the Bishop Residence, is a Chapel of Our Lady of Penha which was first built in 1622. It is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Macau Maritime Museum The Cathedral was the church of Our Lady of Hope of St.Lazarus, declared the mother church of the Macau Diocese. Taipa House Museum is at the foot of a small hill that is crowned by a century-old Catholic Church. The museum is open on weekdays (except Mondays), weekends and public holidays, from 9:30 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5:30 pm. The easiest way to reach Taipa Village is to board one of the buses that stop in front of the Hotel Lisboa near the bridge on the mainland. Bus nos. 11, 15, 22, 28A, 30, 33, and 34 all go to Taipa Village. Sun Yat-Sen Park located next to the canal that forms Macau's border with China contains an aviary, greenhouse and a fung shui forest of trees. Village of Taipa. Nearby is the Macau Jockey Club and track. There is a "food street"serving Chinese, Portuguese and Macanese foods. Mong Ha Fort in Macau has been converted in to a heritage hotel and tourism training school by the authorities in Macau. The fort also has a Portuguese restaurant managed by trainees offering varieties of mouth watering cuisines.. Shopping. A Ma Temple overlooking Barra Square is near Moorish Barracks on Barra Street. Further up the road, Barra Street connects Padre António Street and Lourenço Street where St. Lawrence’s Church stands. Behind the church, Prata Street leads to the junction of São José Street where the grand entrance to St. Joseph’s Seminary and Church is located. |

| Davec, have a read of my reviews. I really only went for the older stuff. You can pick up maps as soon as you step off the boat at the ferry terminal and take a bus straight to Senada Square. There's tourist centre there which offers walking maps of all the historic sites within walking distance of the Square and ST Paul's Get onto Macau Tourism You can download a ma for palm computer with bus routes - excellent site with what's on around town. My tips St Pauls St Lawrence St Michaels and Cemetry Guia Forte and Chapel Taipa Village and Food Street If you have time take a bus ride out to Coloane and back again just to have look |
