tourist (L) to student (X) or business (F) visa?

guest44223 Hello,

I currently have a multiple entry tourist visa (good for 30days), but need a study or business visa instead (will be attending classes for a little over 60 days). I hold a US passport. Would it be best to get a new visa once I am in China? If so, what would be the procedure? I would prefer that over having to leave the country 2x. What are other options? I do not have enough time to get another visa back in the US before I go to China.

Are you sure the visa is onlky valid for 30 days. I suspect that it is valid for multiple entries of 30 days upto a 'valid until' date which is the latest you can enter (for a final 30 days). This will permit you to exit at the border and re-enter immediately. If this is too costly (distance) go to your local PSB Exit and Entry Administration office (amy international hotel should be able to tell you whre this is, as should the institution you will study at). There you can apply for a new visa to meet your needs. Discuss it with the education institution.
