work visa police certificate
May 17, 2009 11:09
guest87220 Hi all. I have a criminal record and I want to work in china. Of course I plan on marking "no" on whether or not I have a criminal record. I've travelled to China many times and marked "no" with no problem for a tourist visa. But is a work visa different? Do they require a police certificate or a background check, to say, be a teacher for example?

It makes no difference which type of visa you apply for. If you mark 'no' you will prob get your visa. Most of us with experience of China believe there is no or very limited checking. If you say 'yes' then you might get probs getting a visa, and perhaps the rules are a bit tighter for a work visa.

GUEST87220 robert, why would it be impossible if I mark "no"? Unless they ask for a police certificate I don't see why I wouldn't. Can someone please answer this question: Do they require a police certificate to work in China? If not I don't see a problem. The fact that they would ask for one at all shows that they are limited in power to do their own background checks. I heard that in shenzen they were rumored to request police certificates but then they stopped. Anyone know the situation? please help.
