I am flying to Beijing in early July, and want to go to Yingkou (Dashiqiao, really) to visit someone. Any advice on the best way to go? Bus? Train via Shenyang? Flight to Shenyang and then train? All ideas appreciated. I'll be in Dashiqiao about a week, and then back to Beijing for another week.

thanks!

"Best" is subjective. If you want the most direct method, there're trains from Beijing to Dashiqiao, no need to transit via Shenyang.

Beijing -- Dashiqiao:
T225/T228 (1816--0243) 8h27min
K681/K684 (2020--0440) 8h20min

Thanks Ellyse, I like direct, but the pre-dawn arrival doesn't thrill me (or my friend). Are tickets for these trains readily available at the station the day of travel, or should I buy them ahead of time? Also, do these tend to run according to schedule generally?

Yes, trains are generally quite punctual.
If you'll be in Beijing for quite a few days prior to going to Dashiqiao, I would advise getting the tickets ahead of time.
If you need help pre-buying tickets, or have any more queries, email me at yahoo.com|ellyse99 and put "TravelChinaGuide" and your own username (eg GSTLB) in the subject line, thanks.
