In ancient China, people paid much attention to marriage of equal status or prestige when talking marriage. However, most of my friends nowadays say that they care their boy friends more than his family background and they would choose a boy of hardworking and honest from a poor family rather than a boy of gluttonous and lazy from rich family background.

It probably has something to do with human nature. Even though "family status and prestige" are not openly touted as a criteria for marriage in the USA these days, people cut from the same cloth seem to find a way to be sewn together.

GUEST8068 Two people from different social class can not get tangled together. There differences in living habit, value, life attitude and ways of thinking are too big to bridge.
