are police certificates required for a work or study visa

guest15190 Hi,

I'm considering working in China or maybe just studying. someone told me that some southern cities are requiring police certificates from my country stating I have no criminal record. Is this true? I do have a criminal record, but I want to work in China. What can I do?

I've never heard of any background check by the police though they might type in your passport number into the system. If your criminal record is somehow attached to your passport then it may cause a problem. Other than that, I know of no employers/police that ask for proof of a clean record.

It is definitely not a standard requirement. However, authorities always have the option of demanding extra info or doing extra checks if they see fit.

I suggest you also do a search in TCG on the the topic of filling in the visa application question about criminal record.

I havenbt been in TCG recently as I have had other commitments....TCG is of course TravelChinaGuide. Hey, why don't you get a user name instead of staying a guest. ??? I give preference to members as I often think guests are less likely to come back again, so I am perhaps wasting my time replying to guests.
