Hi there
Greeting from oz.
Hoping some people might be able to give me some advice and information.
I am an australian and I am going to Guangzhou to teach at SCNU for 10 months and I will be taking my 10 year old.
I need some advice in regards to what is available for care for my daughter. I have looked at the international schools and definately out of my range (fee = years salary). My daughter can continue her australian education through long distance, so I am not particularly worried about her education. What I need is for her to be somewhere safe whilst I work, and I also want her to be able to meet other children and have friends over ther. Was thinking of nanny, as some friends mentioned they are really affordable??
Any ideas or information would be appreciated.
Also love to her from any other expats over there with children.
We know we will face some big challenges, but it is an experience I do not wish to pass up and we have faced big challenges before and found ways around, through or over them.
Thanks
Rachel

GUEST44191 Hello,
You first need a baby sitter to look after your kid daily when she is out of school, the price is around USD 200-250 per month, I am not sure whether you need an English baby sitter or local nanny. Local Nanny will be cheaper than the English baby sitter. The local Nanny can cook for the kids, send the kid to school and pick her from school.

Here I advice some good schools for your little daughter :
1. The British School of Guangzhou- Contact : Ms. Grace - Tel : 020-87094788

2. Guangzhou Nanhu International School

Wish you and your daughter will enjoy a happy time in GZ.

If your daughter can be without you for a couple of hours at the time youhave no problem. You will only teach about 16 classes a week and you will be able to return to your unit when you are not teaching. The Uni neighbours be friendly and you will easily find someone who she can call on in an emergency. You could perhaps pay someone to come in while she studies, but you should only need to pay a max of 250 rmb a week FULL TIME (say A$50).

It would be good if she could mix with local kids and learn mandarin and culture but the problem is that Chinese kids, especially around a uni environment, about 14 hours a day :( Be prepared for sleepy students!

Bottom lline is, don't worry about these matters - they will be easily resolved when you arrive.

See you in Gz!.

GUEST90199 Keep good relationships with your neighbours and pay some money for taking care of your care when you are away. Just leave your child at their homes.

Don't worry, Chinese people are frendly and helpful. There won't be any problem.
