Zhou Senfeng, a-29-year-old post graduate from Tsing Hua University, was elected as the mayor of Yicheng City in Hubei Province. In China, where age and experience means a lot in terms of promotion, it is hard for ordinary grassroots to believe that such a young guy can grab its position through decent channels. Once the news was on the air, it has made netizens uneasy. Suspicions come in a great variety: it is unbelievable that he can climb to such a high position as a new graduate. He must be well-connected. The spokesman of the city has clarified that the appointment of Zhon Senfeng was through legal means and procedure. Maybe, it is due to the fact that China has never had such a young mayor, and he was just the first youngest high-rank official. In China, age is closely related to “Senior” and “experience”.
