![]() | I will be in Beijing for 6 days early July and am looking for a side trip (2-3 days) to someplace cooler accessible by train (overnite train fine). Have seen several offered by various tour companies but would like some opinions from others who have done something similar. |

![]() | Which kind of spots are you interested in ? The scenic spot or some places revealing the history and architecture? Personally, Datong in Shanxi Province is definitely the best recommendation. very near from Beijing, about 6 hours by train, spots can not be missed: Hanging Monastery and Yungang Caves. |

![]() | Thank you for reply. I am interested in scenery, architecture and people. I prefer to spend an hour admiring the outside of a great museum building, than an hour inside. I will research Datong. I must get an itinerary together soon as I must purchase airline tickets and want to be sure than my flights fit my plan for each stop on my short (17 days around the world) trip (6 days Beijing, 5 days Delhi, and the remaining days getting there). |
